Interpreters, 2011

In the series “Interpreters” Kyungwoo Chun takes his cue from historical photographs taken around 1900 during the Joseon Dynasty in Korea. He gave these
to ten painters living in Bremen and asked to make realistic paintings of them. The different cultural codes of the historical photographers and the painters resulted
in reinterpretations of the original photographs, which in turn Kyungwoo Chun photographed.
